Evesham United continued their unbeaten run in 2026 with a determined 2-1 victory over Wimborne Town at the Spiers and Hartwell Stadium on Saturday.

The first clear opportunity arrived in the eleventh minute, when Amer Awadh broke forward and fired just over the bar from the edge of the box.

Evesham made the breakthrough two minutes later. Andre Wright delivered an incisive pass that split the defence, setting Kai Churchley through on goal. Churchley skilfully beat his marker, cut inside, and slotted the ball past Ben Rodwell at the near post to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Ten minutes on, Evesham almost doubled their advantage. Wright was again the provider, sending Ethan Dunbar through one-on-one with Rodwell, but the Wimborne goalkeeper produced a fine save to keep his side in the contest.

Wimborne registered a chance of their own just before the half hour, with Roundell testing Evesham stopper Alex Harris, who dealt with the effort comfortably.

The hosts extended their lead in the 33rd minute. Wright started the move, finding Churchley, whose lofted pass released Dunbar. Beating the offside trap, Dunbar finished emphatically from close range to make it 2-0.

Wimborne responded with a period of pressure before the break. Five minutes from half-time, Josh Carmichael unleashed a powerful drive from outside the area, but Harris was equal to it. Soon after, Cam Munn fired over from the edge of the box.

Wimborne began the second half on the front foot. In the 51st minute, Will Fletcher saw his shot handled in the box, resulting in a penalty. However, Carmichael’s spot-kick crashed against the crossbar, and the rebound was turned behind for a corner.

Midway through the half, Evesham fashioned a rare opportunity. Levi Steele broke the offside trap but was unable to get a meaningful shot away.

Wimborne pressed to get back into the match, creating several half chances. Five minutes from the end, a ball over the top found Joe Smith, whose attempted lob was saved at the edge of the box by Harris. The loose ball fell to Will Fletcher, who poked home to halve the deficit.

In five minutes of added time, Wimborne pushed hard for an equaliser. The first big chance came when Lewis Williams was played in on the right, but Harris produced a strong save. In the dying seconds, the ball fell to Smith in the box, but resolute defending from Evesham prevented a clear shot, allowing them to hold on for victory.

The win saw Evesham climb to 12th in the Southern Premier Division South, with 322 supporters braving the conditions to witness the hard-fought victory.
