Match Report: Evesham United Women 1-4 Long Itchington Women FC

Evesham Utd Women welcomed Long Itchington Women to the Spiers & Hartwell Stadium on a blustery and increasingly wet Sunday afternoon.
The Robins were still without the suspended Kyra Bostock, influential Midfielder Jess Kenny and two full-backs through University and injury, meaning Manager Mark Taylor’s squad was at full stretch. U18 player Bea Harding made her full debut and Helen Bourne came back into the squad following injury. Liv Tresigne continued at centre back after a good performance against Redditch Utd Women and Ria Salleh moved into midfield.
With the wind at their back, the visitors were quickly on the front foot, looking determined and quick to first and second balls. The Evesham defence were kept busy with the wind getting stronger and with the pressure beginning to build; the visitors took the lead. A back pass from Tresigne was handled by Keeper Syd McKenzie for an indirect free kick in the area. A low, accurate strike made it 0-1 to the visitors and had the home side on the back foot.
Several corners on the right were delivered, but good defending and some vital stops from McKenzie kept them out as Evesham struggled to get any kind of rhythm into their game. Their first attack saw the keeper make a fine block from Freya Bostock, who was through on goal before Natalie Sewell also went through, beating the keeper to the ball and seeing her effort go narrowly wide but getting clattered in the process. Sadly, the in-form striker was forced off through injury.
Further pressure from the visitors and a disjointed Evesham saw them go in at half-time a goal down.
With the wind now at the backs of Evesham, they started the second half strongly with F.Bostock winning a free kick on the left. The resulting kick from Tamzin Hayward was saved comfortably by the Long Itchington stopper.
The visitors increased their lead 10 mins into the second half with a quick passing move to make it 0-2 and make Evesham’s afternoon a whole lot tougher. With that said, Evesham were quickly on the attack again, with the visitors’ keeper making fine saves from Hayward, Saff Boswell and substitute Ella Parkinson.
Evesham finally got on the score sheet when the felled F. Bostock rose to send home a penalty after being brought down in the box. Second substitute Isla Campbell had a great effort tipped over the bar before the visitors wrapped up the game with two further goals as Evesham looked to go for the equaliser.
At Full Time, it finished 1-4 to Long Itchington, who were the better side on the day, as Evesham go away disappointed to have not really got into the game and given a true representation of themselves.
Evesham have another home game v Hereford FC Women on Sunday at 2 pm KO.
