Match Report: Uxbridge 1-0 Evesham United

Saturday 10th October 2026 – Southern League Premier Division South

Evesham travelled to third-placed Uxbridge, who had not lost at home since January. The visitors handed debuts to loan signings Max Asante-Boakye and Stephen Walsh, while Liam Hutt was injured during the warm-up and replaced by Rocco Sughayer.

The defences dominated the opening exchanges, with Evesham standing firm against the Uxbridge attack.

Uxbridge registered their first meaningful effort in the 14th minute, when Oscar Varney saved George Moore’s cross-shot low at the back post.

Moore created another good opening after 25 minutes, but his fierce shot struck an Evesham player in the face, prompting a stoppage for treatment.

Chances remained scarce during the opening half-hour, and the goalless scoreline reflected the closely contested action.

Francis Amartey had a shot blocked from a narrow angle in the 34th minute. The game then burst into life five minutes later. Sam Deadfield chased the ball to the byline and delivered a fine cross, which Luis Le Paih met with a first-time volley. The effort looked destined for the net, but Varney’s fingertip save diverted it onto the crossbar before the ball was cleared from beneath the bar. A minute later, after good work from Amartey, Moore rattled the post with another effort that was subsequently cleared.

As the half drew to a close, Evesham grew in confidence. During their best spell of the opening period, they moved the ball quickly into the final third and began to ask questions of the Uxbridge defence.

The sides went into the interval without a goal.

Uxbridge began the second half on the front foot. Their first chance came from a set piece in the 49th minute, when Massey headed narrowly wide from Deadfield’s well-directed corner. Soon afterwards, Cole Brown reached the right side of the box and forced Varney to parry his cross-shot. The hosts remained in control, and in the 64th minute Massey again met a Deadfield corner, this time glancing his header wide of the far post.

Four minutes later, Brown made a strong run before laying the ball off to Moore, whose low shot was deflected narrowly past the post.

With ten minutes remaining, a quick and incisive Evesham break ended with Sopuru Obieri firing past Sam Morris. However, to the home side’s relief, play was brought back for an earlier foul in the build-up.

The decisive moment arrived with four minutes of normal time remaining. Ciaran Martin broke down the left and crossed to Deadfield, whose shot was blocked. The rebound fell kindly to Francis Amartey, who took a touch before firing into the corner of the net to break Evesham hearts. The visitors pushed forward in search of a late equaliser but could not seriously test goalkeeper Sam Morris.

Evesham showed considerable determination against a side whose victory lifted them to second in the league. Ultimately, however, the late goal denied the Robins a valuable point.

Evesham return to action at home against Bath City on Tuesday.
