Worcestershire Senior Invitation Cup Quarter-Final

Match Summary by Simon Purfield

Evesham hosted Alvechurch on Tuesday night in a quarter-final clash in the Worcestershire Senior Invitation Cup. The home side saw the return of Jyrel Bojang and Lewis Middleton to the starting eleven following their recent injuries. Additionally, backup goalkeeper Brendan Beard was handed his full debut for Evesham.

The first notable moment came at the fifteen-minute mark, when Beard produced an impressive one-handed save to tip the ball over the bar, keeping Evesham level. However, Alvechurch took the lead in the 34th minute with a speculative cross from the right by Josh Dugmore, which found its way directly into the net as Evesham’s defence hesitated. The opening 45 minutes were generally quiet, with few clear chances and Evesham only testing the visiting goalkeeper once.

After the break, Evesham’s performance improved visibly, creating a number of half-chances but none that truly troubled the Alvechurch keeper. The best opportunity came when Levi Steele broke through the visitors’ defence after a long pass from Owen Foye, only for his shot to be blocked by a defender.

Despite generating several opportunities, Evesham were unable to convert, largely due to the visitors’ resolute defending, which ensured their goalkeeper was rarely threatened. Alvechurch themselves created little in the second half and never looked likely to add to their tally.

Considering the balance of play, a draw would probably have been a fair outcome.
