Match Report by Simon Corbett
On a very wet Sunday afternoon, Evesham Utd Women travelled to play Droitwich Spa Ladies Devs in the WFA County Cup. Manager Mark Taylor made two changes to the starting line-up up with Tallulah Brown and Ria Salleh coming for Jess Kenny and Yaz Gachette, who began on the bench.
Within thirty seconds of the kick off, Salleh got down the right-hand side and played a perfect ball for Saff Boswell to score at the back post. Only four minutes later, Grace Finch made it two with a composed finish.
Beattie Jutel and Kate Mills were causing numerous problems from full back with their overlapping runs and crosses into the opposition penalty area before the hardworking Clare Williams played a great ball through to Brown, who dispatched the ball high to the keeper’s right to make it 0-3.
The fourth came ten minutes later when Liv Tresigne’s cross from the right was knocked in to her own goal by a Droitwich defender. The first half scoring continued moments later when Boswell unselfishly squared to Finch for a tap-in in and in the final minute of the first half, Boswell hit a screamer in off the post to make it 0-6 at halftime.
Changes were made with Kenny and the returning Freya Bostock coming on, and the latter was causing problems with her direct running from the off, hitting the bar and then the post. Boswell hit the seventh for her well-deserved hat trick, F.Bostock made it eight and excellent Tresigne made it nine with a long-range strike over the keeper.
Grace Dolphin returned from injury and almost made it ten following a good solo run. Gachette and Helen Bourne came into the game before Bourne made it ten with a determined run and finish.
A mention for the defence as they shouldn’t be forgotten, Captain Pitts, Kyra Bostock and latterly Salleh all looked solid, giving Goalkeeper Chloe Raxter literally nothing to do, although her focus had to always remain.
Next match is a big one v Redditch Borough Counties Team Away on Sunday (26.10.25). Both sides go into the game with a perfect record so far, and although it’s early in the season, the points either way could make all the difference.
