Match Report by Simon Purfield
Evesham United have now gone five games without victory and played out six draws in ten after a 1-1 home draw with Plymouth Parkway on Saturday.
The game started with the hosts in the ascendancy without testing the visiting keeper. Parkway then had their turn but could not make any pressure pay on the Evesham defence.
Midway through the first half, Evesham took the lead. A long ball was neatly flicked on by Andre Wright to the path of captain Amer Awadh. He was clean through the visitors’ defence and kept his cool placing the shot past Frankie Phillips to the bottom left corner of the goal. Soon after the roles were reversed with Awadh setting up Wright, but he could not control the pass to get a worthwhile shot away.
The hosts continued to have the better of the match with both full backs Hutt and Foye providing the outlets for the attacks. Josh Barlow and Ethan Dunbar both having efforts at goal.
Just four minutes into the second half, Parkway were level. A cross from the right was not dealt with by Alex Harris in goal and the ball fell kindly to Rio Garside who fired home from twelve yards. The goal lifted Parkway and they enjoyed their best spell of the afternoon. In the 63rd minute the visitors were awarded a free kick for handball just outside the box. Garside took it and Andrew Neal shot wide from the edge of the six-yard box.
Chances came for both teams. Neal almost turned home at the back post for the visitors. Then a Kai Churchley corner reached Ioan Richards at the far post whose header back found Roger James whose effort hit the crossbar. Soon after a Wright cross found Awadh at the near post, but he was thwarted by a good reaction save by Phillips. Five minutes to go loanee George Alston, on as substitute, found himself in a good position in the box, but his effort was saved.
A game of few clear-cut chances, with neither side able to find the decisive moment to win the match. Evesham United are now two places and two points above the relegation zone.
