EVESHAM, UK – 9 June 2026 – Evesham United Football Club announces today that Chairman Ged Bearcroft has stepped down from his position. In a formal letter addressed to the board members, Ged expressed that while the decision was incredibly difficult, he feels his position has become untenable due to increasing commitments outside of the club.

Following the announcement, the club has confirmed that current Vice Chairman Mick Brennan will step up to serve as Interim Chairperson to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of leadership.

Ged originally stepped into the role following the departure of Chris Wright. Initially intending to fill the position temporarily, he grew into the role and was subsequently voted back in as Chairman at the club’s last AGM.

Reflecting on his tenure, Ged highlighted the significant achievements the club has enjoyed under his leadership, including promotion to Step 3 of the football pyramid and successfully securing a second consecutive year at that level. He also praised the fantastic progress of the ladies’ team, the strength of the junior and disability sections, and the club’s vibrant community activities.

In his resignation statement, Ged expressed his profound gratitude to the club’s network:

“Evesham United have a fantastic group of people, mainly volunteers who carry out a lot of hard work, and a very staunch group of supporters who travel up and down the country in support of the team. I would like to think I have grown a wonderful bond with these people.

To move forward, I believe the club needs someone who has more time to devote to the business, helping the club diversify and secure a strong position for the future. I personally cannot commit enough time; I need to concentrate on my business and my employees.”

Ged concluded his letter by offering his best wishes to the board and the club for their future endeavours, adding that he hopes to offer help to the club wherever he can moving forward.

Evesham United Football Club wishes to place on record its sincere thanks to Ged for his hard work, dedication, and the immense success achieved during his tenure as Chairman. The club wishes him the absolute best with his business and future undertakings and welcomes Mick Brennan into his interim role as the club plans its next steps.
