Match Report: Evesham United 3 Chichester City 0

Saturday 15th August 2026 Southern League Premier South

Evesham United bounced back from their midweek home defeat in fine fashion, coasting to a comfortable and well-deserved 3-0 victory. Midfielder Brandon Liggett scored a brace after Jyrel Botang had put the Robins ahead.

The two sides had never met before, with the visitors and their supporters from West Sussex making the long trip to the Spiers and Hartwell Stadium for the first time. The Lilywhites started confidently, with Chebby, Bridle and Lawrence launching some promising attacks in the early stages of the game.

These were dealt with confidently by the Robins defence in which, once again, Ioan Richards was outstanding. It was an even opening 15 minutes with no clear-cut chances created, but the Robins’ new loan signing from Forest Green Rovers, Thomas Conteh, was proving a constant thorn in Chichester’s side and Davidson, the Chichester right back, was booked for pulling him back as he looked to break free on goal.

The first genuine chance of the game fell to Evesham and their captain in the 20th minute. A fine cross from Conteh on the left wing found Amer Awadh unmarked about eight yards from goal, but he put his powerful header narrowly over the bar. This chance began a period of dominance for the Robins and a flurry of half-chances followed. After good interplay between Awadh and Heap on the right, Awadh burst into the box and drilled a low shot just inches wide of the far post, with the Lillywhites keeper Evans well beaten.

Eventually this pressure paid off with two Evesham goals in the space of five minutes. In the 35th minute, after a corner from the right that confused the Chichester defence, the Robins centre-half, Jyrel Bojang, bundled the ball over the line. In the 40th minute, after a clever flick-on from Conteh, Awadh got free and crossed for Brandon Liggett to turn in from close range to double Evesham’s lead. They should have taken a three-goal lead into the break when an unmarked Bojang headed straight at the keeper following a superb free kick from Foye.

Within four minutes of the restart, the Robins went further ahead. New boy Conteh wriggled his way to the byline on the left before crossing to present Brandon Liggett, in a rich vein of goalscoring form, with a simple tap-in to make it 3-0.

Chichester made several substitutions in an attempt to get back into the game, and the introduction of Sweet, Africa and Bello did give them some more creative flair, but they still failed to call the Robins keeper Beard into any serious action. In fact, it was Evesham who continued to carve out the better chances with Richards and Obieri, on for Conteh, having good efforts blocked in the Chichester penalty box.

In the 77th minute, Evesham went down to ten men when Rocco Sughayer, a half-time replacement for Heap, was given a straight red card for a very late challenge. This gave Chichester some encouragement, but it was Evesham who missed the best chance in the last minute of normal time. Chichester’s Moore lost possession deep in his team’s own half, allowing Antony McCormick a clear run on goal. However, the Robins second-half substitute blazed his shot over the bar with just Evans to beat.

Five minutes were added on, and Chichester enjoyed a very belated purple patch. Nevill hit the post, and Beard made a couple of good saves too. They forced several corners that caused the Robins defence some problems, but Evesham ran out deserved 3-0 winners, moving up to 7th place in the table having taken 6 points from their opening three games.
