Match Report by Simon Corbett

Evesham Utd Women travelled to Hereford to play Ross Junior Women in what was considered a tough encounter with Ross looking to take the points in order to put themselves right in the title race. Manager Mark Taylor made one change from the win at Droitwich Spa Devs with Freya Bostock coming in for the injured Sophie Newby.

After an even start, the home side Captain Millie Malsom was causing some early problems on the right with Maisy runs and dangerous balls into the area, the Evesham defence defended and dealt with it comfortably.

Evesham began to take control of the game with F. Bostock finding space on the right and having a shot that flew narrowly over. After 10 mins a speculative shot from Saff Boswell deceived the keeper and went in at the near post for 0-1 and the visitors never looked back.

Two minutes later a corner from Jess Kenny found the head of F. Bostick who made no mistake from close range. Evesham were giving Ross no time to settle, tenacious in the midfield and getting to the ball first, time and time again.

A searching ball from Kenny found Boswell who’s shot was saved at the near post as the lead was nearly increased. The home side were having sporadic attacks with Left Back Beattie Jutel now having the measure of Malsom.

A corner for the home side found a player in space and her shot was saved by keeper Chloe Raxter. Boswell when well placed shot over then play between F. Bostock and Kenny saw a shot smothered by the keeper.

Then another great corner from Kenny found Boswell who’s shot was saved. Ross continued to try and play out from the back and it became their downfall just before Half Time when F. Bostock’s press saw her nick the ball off the defender, she found Boswell who’s shot was well saved but the rebound was hammered home by top goalscorer Grace Finch to make it 0-3.

The pressure was non stop at this stage with the midfield three of Yaz Gachette, Liv Tresigne and Kenny battling for every ball. Just before the half time whistle, an outrageous effort from Kenny from all of 35 yards hit the top of the bar with the keeper beaten before being cleared to safety.

The second half started with Evesham looking to kill the game off early. A pass from Jutel found Boswell who shot straight at the keeper. The fourth goal didn’t take long to come with Gachette winning the ball and finding Bostock who brushed aside the defender to hammer home.

Bostock dispossessed a defender, rolled it across to Finch for a tap in on 60 mins to make it 0-5 before some changes were made.

The excellent Boswell made way for Chloe Dyer who continues to gain minutes following her lengthy lay off and impressive pair of Grace Finch and Right Back Kate Mills were replaced by Ella Parkinson and Emma Stevens.

A surging run from Tresigne found F. Bostock who netted again on 75 mins to complete her hat trick. The visitors continued to be a threat from corners with the home side struggling to get near the well drilled routines.

A corner from the left hand side from Tresigne was met by Kyra Bostock who’s effort goalwards struck Captain Chopper Pitts for 0-6.

The final change came with 15 mins left to play when Jennifer Bent replaced Freya Bostock.

It was a question of how many it might be in the closing stages with Jutel, Parkinson, Dyer and Kenny all seeing efforts wide or at the keeper.

The scoring was finished up with an own goal following a corner from Tresigne, K. Bostock presence was enough to see the ball deflected in for a final score of 0-8.

A dominant display from Evesham which limited a strong home side next to nothing. This was very much a group effort and each and every player deserves the accolade of Player of the Match however, Yaz Gachette took the player vote.

No game Sunday but Evesham Utd Women are back at home on 22.03.26 with the visit of Kingfisher Development.
