Evesham United played host to play-off hopefuls Berkhamsted on Saturday. Unfortunately for the Robins, the match finished in a 2-0 defeat, leaving them only three points above the relegation zone.

Evesham started brightly, with Josh McConnell coming close as his shot narrowly missed the target in the very first minute.

After twelve minutes, Ryan Blake set up Cameron Hyde, whose powerful low strike required a fine save from Evesham goalkeeper Alex Harris.

With twenty minutes gone and Berkhamsted beginning to take control, Blake fired a shot from around twelve yards out that rattled the crossbar.

In the 34th minute, Blake made his mark by heading high into the net at the far post, following a superb cross from the left by Berkhamsted left back Cameron Hyde. This goal put the Comrades one up.

Berkhamsted continued to dominate, with Jose Sani having two promising chances. His first effort—a fierce shot after cutting inside—was well palmed away by Harris. Moments later, Sani cut inside again but sent his shot wide. Blake nearly doubled the lead, but his header went just inches past the post.

Early after the restart, Andre Wright did well down the left, driving in the box after a good move through midfield, but his shot across goal went narrowly wide of the far post.

The second half saw few clear-cut opportunities until the 82nd minute. JJ Lacey delivered a brilliant pass to Blake, who chased it down but put his effort wide. Shortly afterwards, Berkhamsted sealed the win. A corner from the left unsettled the Evesham defence, and after the ball bobbled around the box, Luke Andrews got the final touch, poking it home from close range.

The visiting goalkeeper was rarely troubled, as Evesham failed to register a shot on target. It was a disappointing afternoon for the Robins and a commanding performance from the Hertfordshire outfit.

Evesham remain in 13th place but have now gone three games without scoring. Their next league fixture is on Saturday, when they travel to Uxbridge for their first ever visit.
