Match Report by Simon Corbett
Evesham United Women, sponsored by Active Smile, returned to action after a pre-Christmas H-W followed by the Christmas break to take on Nunnery Wood Utd Women in what was their first game in a month. The match was moved to the 3G after the main pitch was deemed unplayable due to the frosty conditions.
The home side were looking to get straight back into their stride. On a sunny yet freezing day, the visitors started better with Chloe Raxter clawing a shot from distance around the post. Soon after, a tame effort from Beattie Jutel of Evesham was easily saved by the visitors’ keeper.
The hosts were finding it difficult to find their rhythm, more than likely some rustiness after the lay off with misplaced passes and no real connections. The game was congested in the middle of the field with Kate Mills trying to bomb on from full back to create width, Jutel similarly on the left, but it was from corners where Evesham looked the most likely to create a goal. The visitors scrambling away various efforts.
The visitors’ best effort since their early chance was a free kick, which just went over the bar. Moments before half-time, Freya Bostock came on for the injured Ria Salleh and made an instant impact, shooting wide and then putting over a cross with nobody able to convert.
The second half started with a change of shape for Evesham and them becoming on the front foot immediately. Saff Boswell had a goal ruled out for offside, whilst Grace Finch had a couple of efforts flying just over. F. Bostock had a header cleared off the line from a Liv Tresigne corner before the game became a little more even, the Evesham defence easily coping with any attacks from the visitors, Chopper Pitts and Kyra Bostock standing firm as usual.
As time wore on, Evesham took a grip of the game. Another Tresigne corner was headed in powerfully by F. Bostock for 1-0 before Jess Kenny shot narrowly wide. The second goal came when Tresigne hit a low but powerful free kick into the bottom corner from all of 25 yards. Ella Parkinson added the third with a good run, latching onto a perfect pass to shoot powerfully over the keeper.
A deserved 3 points and yet another clean sheet. Reporters POM goes to Yaz Gachette in midfield for her tireless work and Freya Bostock for her positive impact off the bench.
POM was awarded to Captain Chopper Pitts, so a real team effort was obvious for all to see.
Next game: Ludlow Town Women at Home 18.01.26. No game this Sunday.
