Worcester City Lionesses 0-0 Evesham United Women

Match Report by Simon Corbett
Evesham Utd Women visited Worcester City Lionesses on Sunday, looking for a ninth consecutive league victory and potentially, a ninth consecutive clean sheet in the league. After a defeat in the cup against the same opposition, a tough game was expected.
From the first whistle, the visitors were on top with a shot from Yaz Gachette being spilled by the keeper and Saff Boswell with the follow-up was denied. A Liv Tresigne corner was next, being dropped by the keeper, who recovered quickly to make a save. Jess Kenny hit wide before the play went down the other end, the hosts delivering a dangerous free kick which rolled just wide.
The visitors had a big let off when a back pass was too short for keeper Chloe Raxter, and the Lionesses forward shot towards an open goal, but for Evesham to clear off the line. With half-time approaching, Evesham won a free kick on the right-hand side following a foul on Boswell. Kenny sent in the cross, and Grace Finch nodded home only to find that the goal was dubiously ruled out for offside.
The second half started with Kyra Bostock replacing Tallulah Brown, Liv Tresigne moving into midfield, and within minutes, a move down the right led to Boswell shooting just wide of the far post. A great pass by Captain Chopper Pitts sent Tresigne through on the left, but she shot wide of the near post. Ella Parkinson shot over from distance, and another through ball saw Boswell and the keeper collide, with both players needing treatment. Boswell sustained an injury, meaning she was replaced by Chanel Gittus.
With the now strong wind at their backs, the hosts looked a threat, but the Evesham defence held firm. Gittus was playing on the shoulder of the last defender, being caught offside twice, the latter a dubious decision once again, then in the last minute, the flag stayed down, and a ball over the top saw Gittus race clear, the keeper came out, but her shot rolled agonizingly wide.
In summary, a draw was probably a fair result with clear-cut chances at both ends. Best wishes to the injured players in what was a very competitive encounter.
