Match Report by Simon Purfield

The match began at a frenetic pace, with heavy rain contributing to a lively opening. Within the first six minutes, both teams found the back of the net. Evesham United took the lead when a well-placed pass from the left wing allowed Swindon Town loanee Owen Foye to finish neatly from close range into the bottom right corner.

Dorchester Town responded almost immediately after capitalising on a defensive mistake. Marcus Daws intercepted a pass, drove into the penalty area, and squared the ball for Josh Parker, who made no mistake in slotting home the equaliser.

As the half progressed, the game settled, with opportunities for both sides becoming scarcer. In the 16th minute, Robinson surged down the right and delivered a dangerous cross into the box, only for an Evesham defender to clear the threat. On 36 minutes, Kai Churchley tried his luck from just outside the area, but Dorchester goalkeeper Gerard Benfield made a comfortable save. Just two minutes later, Dorchester earned a free kick, which Corby Moore delivered for Ollie Haste, who headed just wide of the target. Daws created another promising moment down the wing, cutting inside and sending in a dangerous cross that unfortunately failed to find a teammate. Just before the break, Evesham captain Amer Awadh forced a superb save from Benfield, and from the resulting corner, Ethan Patterson’s header was also kept out by the Dorchester stopper.

After the interval, Evesham emerged with renewed determination. Andre Wright saw his effort deflected for a corner, and shortly afterwards, Josh Barlow fired over the bar. The home side’s pressure paid off midway through the half. Aaron Heap played a clever through ball to Churchley, whose one-on-one effort was saved well by Benfield, resulting in a corner. Churchley took the set piece himself, and Ethan Patterson was on hand at the far post to head firmly into the roof of the net, claiming his first goal for the club.

Dorchester had a handful of attacks, with Tom Smith’s breakaway effort blocked by an Evesham defender representing their best chance during this spell.

In the 80th minute, substitute Levi Steele made an instant impact. Just two minutes after coming on, a lofted pass to the far post from Awadh found Steele, whose bullet header left Benfield with no chance, extending Evesham’s lead to 3-1. Dorchester nearly pulled one back when Ieuan Turner met a cross with a strong header, but Evesham keeper Alex Harris produced a fine save.
With the match nearing its conclusion, Ethan Dunbar struck the post with Benfield in no man’s land, and the rebound fell kindly for Steele, who reacted quickest to score his second goal of the match and seal the victory for the home side.

This result moved Evesham United up two places to tenth in the table, while Dorchester Town slipped into the relegation zone.
