Match Report by Simon Corbett

After three victories on the road, Evesham United Women welcomed Droitwich Spa Ladies Development to the Spiers & Hartwell Stadium. Evesham had comprehensively beaten the visitors a fortnight ago in the cup, and with this in mind, Manager Mark Taylor rotated the squad, giving starts to Grace Dolphin, Millie Whitehead, Helen Bourne and Tullulah Brown. Kate Mills, Beattie Jutel and Saff Boswell were on the bench alongside Jen Bent, with 16-year-old Ella Parkinson stepping up from the u17’s.

Within five minutes of the start, Grace Finch was played in by Whitehead, and she opened the scoring with a stroke in off the post. The next fifteen minutes became a scrappy affair with few chances created at either end. The game livened up just before the half hour with Liv Tresigne shooting at the keeper before the keeper saved from Brown when the goal was gaping.

On 35 minutes, debutant Parkinson came into the game and made an instant impact, putting Jess Kenny through on the right, and her cross was met by a Droitwich defender for a spectacular own goal. Parkinson scored with a cool finish on here senior debut following a good pass from Yaz Gachette, and the home side went in at the break 3-0 to the good.

The second half started as the first finished, with Evesham constantly on the attack. Parkinson put in a beauty of a cross with Finch heading in to make it 4-0, and soon after Finch completed her hat trick to make it 5. Brown made it 6-0 with a fine finish high over the keeper. The outstanding Gachette nearly made it seven with a surging run from midfield, only to be halted at the final hurdle. Brown intercepted a back pass and rounded the keeper, coolly slotting home from a tight angle. Parkinson got a deserved second goal, and Kenny got her first for the club before Saff Boswell scored from a corner. Kenny rounded off the scoring late on to make it 11-0 and complete a dominant performance.

The victory sends Evesham United Women top of the league ahead of what will be a tough game away to Ross Juniors Women on Sunday.
