On a cold and increasingly wet afternoon, Evesham United Women travelled to Redditch Borough Women Counties in a top-of-the-table clash with both teams having had great starts to the season. The match was moved to Arrow Vale School 3G early Sunday morning due to the overnight bad weather at The Cherry Tree Stadium, and just how much that was to affect either side, we were soon to see. Manager Mark Taylor made two changes from the Droitwich Spa Development cup win, with Jess Kenny and Yaz Gachette recalled to the starting line-up.

Zoe Bloss was back with the squad and named on the bench. For the first 15 minutes, the home side were on the front foot with balls over the top and crosses from the left and right-hand side, ensuring Evesham were on their toes and to their credit, absolutely were with excellent defensive work from Kate Mills, Beattie Jutel, Captain Chopper Pitts and Kyra Bostock. Chloe Raxter in goal was a commanding presence with safe handling and excellent sweeping tendencies, were she to be called upon.

Evesham gradually grew into the game and took a grip of the midfield. Some smart play saw Tresinge play in Saff Boswell, who shot straight at the Redditch keeper. On 21 minutes, Liv Tresigne delivered a corner from the left, which hit the top of the bar before Kenny had a shot that scrambled round the post by the excellent Redditch keeper for a corner. Not that one, but the next corner saw the deadlock broken when another quality corner from Tresigne was nodded in at the back post by Gachette to make it 0-1 for a deserved lead. Redditch responded with further balls into good areas, but the defence held firm. A free kick went narrowly wide for the hosts before Boswell shot wide after being played through by Finch as the half came to a close.

The second half started much like the first, with the home side looking to strike early, but the defence was snuffing out all danger brilliantly. An Evesham corner connected with the head of Bostock, which was brilliantly saved by the keeper as the rebound fell again to Bostock, whose shot was then blocked.

Subs were made with the pacey Bloss coming on for Clare Williams, and Tallulah Brown replaced Kenny. Evesham were still looking for the second goal with a Finch header straight into the arms of the keeper. Boswell also hit the keeper before Pitts had a chance from a corner, to which the keeper made yet another great save.

Bloss put Finch into some space, and she shot narrowly over. Evesham saw out time comfortably despite Redditch piling numbers forward. POM Raxter remained focused as she collected and saw over some late Redditch corners and free kicks.

In summary, a superb victory against a very good side. Hard work, commitment and concentration were the order of the day, and the quality would shine through. The players delivered that to a tee! After three away games on the bounce,

Evesham return to The Spiers & Hartwell Stadium on Sunday (Nov 2nd) 2 pm KO for the visit of Droitwich Spa Ladies Development. Thank you once again to those who followed us away from home again today. Your support is appreciated!
