Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South

Match Report by Simon Purfield

Evesham delivered a commanding performance against Tiverton Town in their latest Southern Premier League fixture, securing a convincing victory. The Robins wasted no time in asserting their dominance, finding the net within just 90 seconds of kick-off. A moment of quick thinking from Alex Harris allowed Will Owens to collect the ball, and his perfectly weighted pass found Levi Steele. Steele surged forward and calmly slotted the ball beneath the advancing goalkeeper, giving Evesham an early lead.

Evesham continued to threaten, and in the sixth minute, Aaron Heaps’ shot was saved by Burton, with Steele’s follow-up also thwarted. The Robins doubled their advantage in the tenth minute, thanks to some excellent play from Heap. Twisting and turning through the Tiverton defence, Heap delivered a precise cross to Andre Wright, who finished confidently under the goalkeeper.

Tiverton responded with a promising opportunity after Evesham surrendered possession in a dangerous area, leading to Jagger Cane forcing a strong save from Harris. The half-hour mark saw a penalty appeal for Evesham, but the referee waved it away. From the incident, Tiverton’s Moxey was unfortunate to sustain an injury and was forced to leave the field.

Evesham extended their lead in the 38th minute when a corner from Will Owens slipped through Burton’s hands and found its way directly into the net, making it 3-0. Tiverton’s best chance of the half came five minutes later, with Asa Hall heading wide from a promising position inside the box.

Evesham remained in control after the interval and added a fourth goal in the 52nd minute. Amer Awadh delivered a cross, allowing Steele to notch his second of the game from close range. On the hour, a powerful run from Heap set up Wright, who beat a defender and forced a corner after the Tiverton keeper saved at the near post.

Tiverton’s strongest opportunity in the second half came in the 65th minute, as a clever back heel in the penalty area set up Jagger Cane.
Shortly after coming off the bench, Kai Churchley showcased his skill on the left wing, capping off his run by blasting the ball into the top right corner for another Evesham goal. Substitute Ethan Dunbar then combined with fellow substitute Lewis Middleton, who narrowly missed a sixth goal. Dunbar later broke through the Tiverton defence himself but shot wide.

Jagger Cane nearly claimed a consolation for Tiverton, breaking in behind the Evesham defence, but was denied in a one-on-one situation by Harris.

The Robins’ emphatic win sees them climb three places in the table to a highly respectable sixth position. Evesham will look to continue their strong league form as they travel to Berkhamsted on Tuesday.
